Policy Bulletin 205 - Suspension of Service
Adopted 2007/12, Revised 2018/05
Adopted 2007/12, Revised 2018/05
- When services are permanently discontinued and all bills paid, the meter deposit, if any, will be refunded.
- Upon discontinuance of service for nonpayment of bills, the deposit will be applied by the Corporation toward settlement ofthe account. Any balance will be refunded to the water User, but if the deposit is not sufficient to cover the bill, the Corporation may proceed to collect the balance in the usual way provided by law for the collection of debts.
- Service discontinued for nonpayment of bills shall constitute a disconnection and will be restored only after bills are paid in full (including the accumulated monthly minimum bill since the date service was discontinued), any requested deposits are paid and reconnection charges, in the amount established in the rate schedule, are paid for each meter reconnected. Service will only be restored if water service still remains available as determined by the Corporation, based upon hydraulic capacity
- When water service is disconnected at the request ofthe water User, the water User waives his/her rights to membership in the Corporation and rights to water service at the meter location in question. Any application for water service at a later time will be considered and treated as a new membership. The location will only be served if it is determined that water capacity exists to serve the location.
-
The Corporation reserves the right to discontinue its service, on a permanent or temporary basis, without notice for the following additional reasons:
- To prevent fraud or abuse
- Water User's willful disregard of the Corporation's rules
- Emergency repairs
- Insufficiency of supply due to circumstances beyond the Corporation's control
- Legal processes
- Direction of public authorities
- Strike, riot, fire, accident, or any unavoidable cause
- To prevent system contamination through an unintentional or intentional cross-connection
-
The Corporation may, in addition to prosecution by law, permanently refuse service to any water User who tampers with a meter.
